Giri/Haji review, Culture Whisper
Detective dramas are all the same, until they’re not. When they’re different, people pay attention: gripping the entire nation like Broadchurch did, or striking horror-movie fear like Luther, or grazing a brutal realism like A Confession.
Despite approaching an all-too-familiar genre, Giri/Haji (translation: Duty/Shame) plunges into a thrilling, unstoppable storm of stylised drama across London and Tokyo; flying through black-and-white flashbacks, stretched aspect ratios, and swift anime sequences. A very different approach, indeed.
