The Singapore Grip ep1 review, Culture Whisper
Although The Singapore Grip came forty years before Succession, this ITV adaptation of J.G. Farrell's novel clearly has a similar audience in mind. David Morrissey plays the Logan-like patriarch Walter Blackett, a colonial rubber baron based in Singapore during the Second World War. He co-manages his company with business partner Mr Webb (Charles Dance), who’s one of the more progressive and likeable characters in the series.
But Webb’s getting on a bit, and Walter needs somebody to succeed his legacy (sound familiar?). Will it be the goofy, cartoonish son or the intelligent and borderline sociopathic daughter?
